3 very ugly personality traits

Have you ever worked with someone who took absolutely no responsibility for their behaviour and or actions…

If not, then I have to say I hope you stay in that world, because that world is alot better than their world.

Then to add to that, working with someone who has a bad attitude and an ego larger than life…oooooooh I’m gringing just thinking about it.

I’ve had the pleasure and I say this with the up most sarcasm of working with such a being with all three traits.

It was quite the experience. I learned in more ways than one, the importance of respect and a humble heart.

I also learned about myself, my tolerance level and how important it is to stick to my values and professionalism.

There are situations that rise, when we could walk away from such a sour personality, and in other cases it seems like we cant because of life situations. So what do you do?

I’m open to suggestions, let me know what is your method of working with someone that has all three or just one of those traits.

Let me kindly list them again

  • Take no responsibilty
  • Bad attitude
  • A large than life ego

My answer to that question

Know what your goals and values are, if working with such a personality trait is worth it for you then do you, if not then do you.

I value respect, and I can’t stand a bad attitude, egos are fine its when the ego starts to lift the individual off the planet earth and turn them into a gas balloon filled with stank air and no substance.

It doesnt matter who you are, what you do, and what accomplisments you think you have made or have made, treating someone without respect is not acceptable. When we allow others to direspect us we allow them to think its ok.

Not taking responsibilty for your actions is not a very mature thing to do. It shows a very selfish way of thinking and living.

We train others how we want them to treat us, and I keep that in my mind all the time, especially after dealing with such an unearthly monster of a being…lol..I’m sorry please forgive me, but sometimes honesty is needed to get the point across.

A night out

When was the last time you had a night out with your friends?

The older I get the more I treasure a night filled with, laughter, acting like a complete fool, good food and the company of good friends and family around me.

It doesn’t have to be an expensive night or day. And it doesn’t have to be a headache.

For a mellow and chill night

All that’s needed is friends and family

A simple location (the living room is just fine)

A good movie or board games

Friends could bring meals or finger food with them

Some wine

And good stories that make you laugh

The benefits: A night or day well spent, without breaking your pocket.

Something more $

A restaurant

A beach cook out

A movie night at the theatre

A theme park visit with your best pals

Spa treatment

Whatever you decide, make it something that takes place at least once a month. Plan for it, so it doesn’t fly under the radar. Turn your cell phone off or put it on silent. It’s important to have downtime, and nothing is more annoying than having a night out with a friend who is on the phone 80% of the time.

Have fun, de-stress and enjoy the greatness that comes with family and friends.

There are plenty of events that take place in the community, the city and outside of the city, find out about them and go enjoy them with your friends and family, its worth it.

Don’t forget about the journey

Often times we focus so much on getting to the goal, that we sometimes forget about the journey, we forget about the people we meet, and the people we share laughter with. We forget about the word of advice that was given to us from an unexpecteded individual or we forget the people who open up there world, open up doors to help us get to our goals.

Whatever your goal is, don’t lose sight of the journey, don’t forget to say thank you.
Don’t forget to enjoy and feel what it is to Dance, Live and Inspire in that moment.

Opportunities will come that will propel us to our goals, but don’t forget about the starting line and the in between. No don’t dwell on it, just let it mold you into a great being.
Reflect, relate, understand and appreciate.

We all want to reach our goals, but reaching our goal only to realize we have left our essence behind, is a lonely road to the finish line.

STOP for a minute and ask: Where am I? What am I doing here? How did I get here and who should I thank? How do I feel, and how do the people around me feel?

The journey might be rocky at times, but its still our responsibility to live fully, and care about the people we affect on a daily basis.

What does it mean to be fearless?

Does it mean to look your fears and worries in the eyes and say, you know what, to hell with you, I’m moving forward and you can’t stop me

Does it mean taking baby steps each day to move forward even though it feels and seems like all is against you

Does it mean not giving up, I mean really not giving up

What does the word fearless mean to you?

What are your fears?

No you don’t need to tell me, but just knowing what they are allows us to start the work of moving forward and really being fearless.

Fear is not always a bad thing, some people allow fear to drive them and succeed at doing so, it’s when fear holds us and prevents us from living a life that is truly great.

Educating Non Dancers

If we want others to respect the art and business of dance, one of the best things we could do is educate them so that they know, how to treat us, and what is expected in the industry.

If we as dancers want to be respected and taken seriously for our craft we really have to be wise at what we do. Explain to artists and event bookers why certain things need to be put in place.

Take what you do seriously and walk away from situations that jeopardize and oppress dancers.

That’s my take, and my opinion…If educating someone means speaking up when others don’t then that’s something that needs to be done, love and respect what you do enough to take a stand for it.

It’s easy for non dancers to assume something because of what they see. As dancers and choreographers, that’s when we could say yes or no, and educate them.

We can’t control others, however we could let others know how to treat us, by showing them, and telling them.

I love and appreciate dance so much that it drives me crazy when individuals make decisions based off of greed, and quick opportunities, that brings down the foundation of the art and business of dance..But this is something I have to work on..because I will go insane if I continue to let this bother me.

Every Dancer wants to Shine

Every dancer wants the opportunity to shine, and to be recognized.

Its natural and when you put in the work its a deserving thing.

In an industry that could be harsh at times, news gets around fast, especially bad news, as dancers we have to make sure we don’t dance on anyones toes..especially when it comes to the nature of the business.

Don’t let the need to get the next job or opportunity mean that you step on toes, and potentially leave a sour energy with your peers or choreographer..only you could decide if its worth it..and if it is, be prepared for whats to come.
