OMG this is life changing…well not really

20 Mar

Hey lovely people.

Got some good news for ya and I got some not so good news..like life changing news…wellllll it’s really not that bad.

Good News

I’ve set up shop somewhere else in cyber space, and it’s around the corner..no need to travel far, just a CLICK AWAY.

My current blog is called Dance Live Inspire but my domain is kayannward.wordpress.com, so I decided to start a new blog..it’s still called Dance Live Inspire. except, the domain is DanceLiveInspire.Wordpress.com. Also this blog is dedicated to dance, everything dance and only dance. It’s not the conventional blog..

Dance Live Inspire

A blog that connects, educates, develops and highlights the creative freedom of dancers and dance lovers in the commercial & entertainment industry.

It’s not censored, it’s truthful and there are lots more to come from this.

So what’s the not so good news you may ask

Well, I will be changing my current blog..I will have everything from my website at kayannward.com and I will have a personal blog dedicated to helping ladies look and feel good from the inside out..and may I add this comes with all the randomness, craziness and misbehaving antics that I’m known for. I figured the best way to help others, which I really truly love to do, is to be myself 100% of the time.

So you see the bad news is not so terrible and life threatening after all.

I will continue to post some great stuff on this blog, but it won’t be for long. And I promise you when I move my personal blog, you will be notified.

So here is what I need you to do..if you love dance, then go over to Dance Live Inspire and check it out. CLICK HERE

And thank you in advance..:)

Talk to you lovelies later.

A message to the creative entrepreneur

16 Feb

Every now and then, something inspires me, sometimes I don’t know where the inspiration comes from. Like today, it just came and within 3 minutes I wrote this. But I don’t think it was instant inspiration, I think now was the right time to share this, so like all natural things, everything flowed and fell right into place.

Step out with faith

Being an artist is fun, we are able to create, we are able to start from scratch and bring life to anything, we use colors, we use music, we use our bodies, we use whatever it is made possible to create magic.

However we are also very fragile beings. We are sensitive about our work, and we spend endless hours until the world notices our talents constantly explaining what we do, why we do it, and how we make a living from doing it.

We find it hard at times for the rest of the world, “The Regular People” to understand us, and give us the time we need so we can foster our talents. I say regular people, because sometimes the regular people think of us as “The Odd Ones”

We put our talents out there, and pray that it is best received. Some enjoy, some dislike, some despise, and some take what we put out there, duplicate it and call it their own.

We experience many challenges and we experience many joys.

But today, this one is for all the creative entrepreneurs I know, this also goes out to myself.

Step out with faith.

Know that the gifts given to us, is for us to share with the world, and it doesn’t matter how hard times get, and trust me they get hard, don’t give up.

Whenever you fall, get up, dust yourself off, wipe your face, dry your tears and continue.

Keep stepping out with faith as your armor. Something great will happen, just know it, feel it and believe it.

A sweet thank you

It’s your business to know..here is why

14 Nov

Last week I posted this on my facebook status “One of the most important lessons I learned as a dancer and choreographer..”If your going to make this your living, your career, then you need a business plan.” When I first heard that I kind of got it, but through experience I can say “I GET IT LOUD and CLEAR”

Ayeesha Kanji asked “so can you expand on this more in a blog, I’d like to read it!”

Follow up

Dancers are creative people,we want to dance, create, dance, create, dance and create..you get the drift.

For many of us a business plan, is not on the list of things to do. What the hell is that a dancer/choreographer may ask..I just want to dance, it’s not about the money.

REALLY????

Many like to think I’m going to dance, and something great will happen, and then I will live off of this something great for the rest of my life.

REALLY, what is that “SOMETHING GREAT”

Well when you’re a dancer and or choreographer and you plan on making your talent your career, you need to get serious and ask yourself questions like, “How will I do what I love and live the life I want to live by doing what I love?”

That’s the question, I was told to ask myself from a mentor.

He said, you kind of get it, but when you do, you will really understand, and then your thought pattern will change.

Well it did change here is why.

1) I realized that I can no longer just do something just because I like to do it..I have to be smart with my time, I have to be smart with choosing the right people to work with, choosing the right people to learn from. I have to continue to learn, even learn things that have nothing to do with dance/fitness, but they help my overall career.

Downside: When this isn’t done then your scattered, doing everything, which often results in burn out, and you’re not anywhere closer to your dream or your goal.

2) He said there is a system and a foundation that businesses are set up from. Pay attention to how businesses are set up, and follow. Some may think it’s bad to follow…ummmm helllo…if your following in the steps of someone successful, and your learning valuable information that will help you, and help you help others, then this is a good thing…

Downside “When we don’t humble ourselves and allow ourselves to learn, we miss out on what can help us, we end up falling behind because we failed grow.”

3) People that love what they do and find a way to live a great life by using their talents “These people have a plan, maybe they didn’t have one when they started, but to maintain a career that will make you live from your talents, you need a clear plan, and a plan of action”

Downside: Not having a plan to succeed, is planning to fail.

You need to know

  • What you want?
  • Why you want it?
  • How you will get it?
  • When you want it by ?
  • What you need to do to get it?
  • How will you know when you have it?

Dance and fitness is life, it really is, without it, a major part of me is gone, and if this is you, then we can relate. Even if your talent is music, acting etc..We as artist have to be smart, and understand that we can’t leave our lives up to others. Get creative,  create a plan, implement the plan and continue on the path to make sure we are sharing our talent to the world without being “The broke ass artist”

What happens when we tell young people “Dare 2 Dance”?

11 Nov

What happens when we tell young people “Dare 2 Dance”?

Well absolute magic happens, inspiration, empowerment and a platform to allow young people to create takes flight.

I’m so honored to be one of the mentors for the Toronto District School Board “Dare 2 Dance” Program.

I got the chance to work with versatile up and coming dance groups from a variety of high schools.

These schools will compete to win the Dare 2 Dance competition.

I went to the semi finals yesterday, and it was amazing.

I was so inspired by the creativity, thought and dedication that all the students put into their performances.

When I was in high school this program wasn’t around, very unfortunate, however I’m thrilled that this program is here to allow students to be part of a bigger picture. Which is giving them the platform they need to express themselves through movement.

The final competition is December 8th, 2011..if you love dance and support young people expressing themselves in a positive and creative way, then definitely come and support them.

What was your 1st dance class like

8 Nov

What was your 1st dance class experience like?

I remembered mine. It went something  like this.

I was told about a popular Hip-Hop dance class.

I went to this dance class, thinking yes finally I will be able to dance, and do what I love to do.

I walked into the studio, it was packed, I knew no one, except the girl who invited me. By the time she took her spot in class, her focus changed and I was not on her mind, she was ready, and I was left alone to figure it out.

The class started with a warm up, that was hard as hell.

The teacher then came in and taught the dance routine, which was also hard as hell, I couldn’t figure it out if my  life depended on it.

Damn, I was awful, so painful to think about…I was horrible, I just didn’t get it..”turn left, turn right..and boom kack, kack kack, hit”.???????….I didn’t get it.

I was bumping into people, and tripping all over myself….HOT MESS OF A HOT MESS

I left the class and whatever ego I had was crushed to pieces..lol

I didn’t attend another dance class again until 2 years later. I was still awful when I took another dance class, only now I was more than determined to get better.

I figured I was a good freestyle dancer, but I was awful at picking up choreography.

Through time and dedication, I learned how to pick up choreography faster, and I learned how to  execute my moves better.

Everyone has there challenges, my 1st challenge as a dancer, was to learn how to learn..

So if your thinking that you will never get better, you will..just keep at it…and give yourself permission to learn, and to learn you have to be open to knowing that you don’t know…that’s why you’re in class..you also have to be nice to yourself…and don’t be afraid to laugh at yourself..laughing is good for the soul..

I’m still laughing at myself because of how horrible I was..HOT HOT MESS..

****If your thinking about dancing, you want to start, or you want to get better..a friendly tip is just start and don’t give up****

I wish it didn’t take me two years to go back to a dance class, but what is done is done..I’m dancing now, and loving every bit of it.

Have you had a funny dance class experience, if so share it with me?
