When was the last time you took a rest day?

When was the last time you took a day or a weekend to just relax and do nothing, I mean absolutely nothing, just lay back  and enjoy time, sleep in, eat food, spend time with the people who care about you, laugh and have a good time..stress not invited.

I did that this weekend, and it was amazing. It was my birthday on November 27th, so it happened at the perfect time.

Yes I stepped out to run a few errands and do some work related stuff, but overall the feeling of just relaxing felt great.

Do your self a favor and take a day or a weekend to just chill out.

Do nothing that consists of you stressing out or bringing negative vibes into your life. You will thank yourself.

If you can’t take a day or a weekend then take a few hours, but I would hope that you can find a day out of your schedule to care for yourself. If your finding it hard to take a day to rest, then you may have to sit down and think  about somethings.

So go ahead take a rest day, and do not feel guilty about it, you deserve it, you will thank yourself for doing it, and you will feel much better and much more prepared to carry out the rest of your week.

Make fitness a lifestyle choice not a chore

Ask yourself

  • What do you like about working out, what do you dislike about working out?
  • Are you willing to work out early in the morning or later during the day?
  • Do you like to work out by yourself, with a friend or in a group setting?
  • Do you like to listen to music when you workout or do you like a peaceful and Zen type of atmosphere
  • What are your fitness goals?

These are important questions you need to ask yourself before you dive into a new workout plan.

Your workout does not have to be a life sentence to boredom, and yes your workout has to be appealing to your mind-body and soul for you to stick to it.

Make your workout part of your lifestyle and part of your personality. Choose a workout that fits who you are.

Ask yourself questions and search for the workout that fits you.

What Does Sexy Mean To You

We all know we live in a society that bombards us with images of what women are supposed to look and feel like, of what sexy is.

We get messages from left right and centre that is supposed to guide us into thinking and believing that what we are seeing is the way to being sexy and feeling sexy.

So my question is what does sexy mean to you?

When I started dancing professionally, a big thing was I had to whip my hair when I was dancing, and that will make me sexy..the thing is I didn’t have and never in my life had long hair to the point that it could be whipped. So I went out and got a wig in hopes that it would increase my sexiness..LMAO

Now thinking back, I should have left the wig in the store. I’m not saying I don’t love wigs, because I do, it’s the perfect accessory to dress up in. But a wig and all other gimmicks does not define sexy for me. Yes I still dance and perform in wigs, however I also dance and perform with my natural hair. I wear my hair extremely low and I’ve cut it off completely, and I feel much more confident, sexy, liberated when my hair is low. Now I just love to play around with my look as another way to express myself.

Sexy for me comes from within. And yes that’s something we also hear all the time.

But to add to that, a pair of heels doesn’t make me sexy, I love the way I look and feel when I’m wearing it, it adds to feeling sexy, it doesn’t make you sexy.

When I teach I always emphasize to female dancers and women that look for material and other outside elements to make them feel good and sexy. I tell them it comes from within, find that powerful female essence that eats, breathe and sleeps sensuality, strength and intelligence and let it ooze from your pores.

Yes heels are hot, but women can be just as sexy in running shoes, you have to be able to pull it out from inside of you.

Sexy is being comfortable with who you are, it’s saying I’m a creative, sexy and an innovative women..

It’s an attitude, it’s confidence..it’s your personal swag that comes from within

Progress so far

I’m happy to say, I’ve been healing well.
I’m able to walk much better. I’m still not able to run, or put too much pressure on my left knee.

After seeing a specialist they said I tore my meniscus which is the cushion between my lower femur and tibia bone.
This cushion protects your knees, it acts as a shock absorber, so your able to jump and run without your bones rubbing together. (The menisci act to disperse the weight of the body and reduce friction during movement)
I will be getting an MRI soon to confirm what the specialist said, and also to determine if there are any other damages and if surgery is needed.

I pray I don’t need surgery.

I’ve been blessed to have good people around to help me with my treatment, and by the looks of everything I will be back to myself soon.

Important class update

What will happen to the Dancehall, Sweat B4 U Sweat and Lady Bold classes?

All dance, fitness classes and workshops will be postponed until further notice.

I do expect to get back to teaching, because I enjoy it very much. And I know I will miss it, but I have to put my health first.

Once I know when I will be back up and dancing again, I will let you all know.

Will Night of Essence still happen?

For sure, for sure. Without a doubt Night of Essence is still taking place May 29th at 6 Degrees Event Venue.

This showcase is dear to my heart, and I’m excited to see all the performances that these talented ladies have up their sleeves.

We have an amazing line up of singers, dancers, choreographers, and more.

What are you doing with all this free time?

Because I’m not very mobile. I’ve decided to become more of a student.

I’ve asked the universe to let me know what I need to do and learn at this particular time in my life.

If it was all up to me, I would jump back into getting myself busy, but maybe that’s why I’m injured. Maybe I need to not be so darn busy.

So I’m here. I plan to write, awaken my senses and creativity, read, listen to music, heal myself (mind, body and soul). I also plan to be still.

But to be honest “This is where I am right now, and right now is where I need to be.”

Injured

What happened?

So after dancing for many many many years, I’ve now added injury to my dance resume..yikes, not good, or is it. I’ve never been injured like this, and I’ve always said, that I’m very happy to not have had any injuries that would interfere with dancing. Well I spoke too highly and I spoke too soon.
While in L.A rehearsing for Carnival “A Choreographers Ball” I went down in pain. I injured my left knee bad enough to be put out of commission and to end up in a leg brace with crutches.

May I add that when I got injured I wasn’t even in L.A for two full days.:(

But on the bright side I’m Ok, I’m well, I’m breathing, and happy. I’m definitely facing some challenges but its nothing that can’t be solved with faith.

Right now, I could hardly walk. But I didn’t say couldn’t walk. I’m able to move on snail time, with the help of crutches if needed be.
Which is major because I was not able to move my left leg at all last week.

In no way am I making a mockery out of something extremely serious.

Yes I’m in shock, yes I’m sad I wasn’t able to perform in L.A, yes yes yes, to being and feeling a million and one emotions all at once.

But this is where I am right now, and right now is where I need to be.

I can’t go back, I could only move forward, and forward is where I’m going. I know it will be tough, but I’m curious to see how I pull through.

I’m not going to go through the details of exactly what happened. Because I don’t even know, all I know is I twisted, heard a pop, and fell to the ground, in pain from head to toe.

After seeing the doctor, I was told nothing is broken, I do have a sprained knee, however I need to have an MRI to find out if anything was torn. And I will keep you all posted on the info.

Are you too tired to workout after a long day?

 I definitely understand when someone tells me how tired they are at the end of the day, and how they really want to workout but because they hardly get the time to relax, they put off their workout for the next day and the next day..and you get the drift.

Yes I have to agree, its tough to pull it all together and get yourself to workout after a long day, it gets more complicated when you have a list of things to do after you finish your workout.

But it’s not impossible. This just means you need to make some changes and some changes may be harder than others..but repeat this..its not impossible to get your workout completed..and I know this because I’ve been there.

Here’s my tip for getting my workout completed

I’ve had to become aware of my thoughts. The minute I start to feel tired, that’s when I start to tell myself, just relax, stay home, or go home and sleep you deserve it. And believe me, the thought of sleep always entice me.

But like I said I’ve had to become conscious of my thoughts, so before I get to that point, I try extremely hard to stay focus on keeping my energy up for the day, and when it drops, I start to think of my goals, and why going to the gym will help me obtain my goals, of good health, feeling amazing, having the endurance and strength needed to perform, and the list goes on.

Like I said I know what its like to feel dead tired. But it’s not impossible to get your workout completed, do it, you will be happy you did. Keep your workout goals clear, know why you’re doing what you’re doing, and let that be your focus.

Add some life to  your workout, bring music, bring a friend, one that is focus, and one that doesn’t waste time.

When you complete your workout, don’t forget to congratulate yourself. Because it’s not always easy. And I admit that myself.

You know, the post that talks about how 2010 was for you, and how we all should write our goals for 2011 down, stay focus and get to work.

Right, well I’m not writing that….so if your looking to read that, you could check out my 2010 blog post, or some other post on focus and goals.

What I’m going to write is pretty short and sweet.

Its 2011, make it amazing and make it count for something..
