A message to the creative entrepreneur

16 Feb

Every now and then, something inspires me, sometimes I don’t know where the inspiration comes from. Like today, it just came and within 3 minutes I wrote this. But I don’t think it was instant inspiration, I think now was the right time to share this, so like all natural things, everything flowed and fell right into place.

Step out with faith

Being an artist is fun, we are able to create, we are able to start from scratch and bring life to anything, we use colors, we use music, we use our bodies, we use whatever it is made possible to create magic.

However we are also very fragile beings. We are sensitive about our work, and we spend endless hours until the world notices our talents constantly explaining what we do, why we do it, and how we make a living from doing it.

We find it hard at times for the rest of the world, “The Regular People” to understand us, and give us the time we need so we can foster our talents. I say regular people, because sometimes the regular people think of us as “The Odd Ones”

We put our talents out there, and pray that it is best received. Some enjoy, some dislike, some despise, and some take what we put out there, duplicate it and call it their own.

We experience many challenges and we experience many joys.

But today, this one is for all the creative entrepreneurs I know, this also goes out to myself.

Step out with faith.

Know that the gifts given to us, is for us to share with the world, and it doesn’t matter how hard times get, and trust me they get hard, don’t give up.

Whenever you fall, get up, dust yourself off, wipe your face, dry your tears and continue.

Keep stepping out with faith as your armor. Something great will happen, just know it, feel it and believe it.

Give your time and skills to someone else

14 Feb

When feeling lost, not knowing what the next move should be, one of the best things we can do for ourselves is to help others.

Help someone achieve their goals, be of service to others. Learn, and open up yourself to meet new people, try new things, go to new places. But continue to be of service to others. I’ve learned that great things happen when we do this. Volunteer, participate in a group activity.

Sometimes we like to isolate ourselves, and feel sorry for ourselves.

That’s not the best thing to do.

Don’t have an end result in your mind. Just be of someone elses service. You will start to notice a shift in your energy, and while you help someone else you’re helping yourself. It’s amazing.

Just ask someone could I help, what do you want me to do?

I’m not saying, go out there and let someone take advantage of your kindness and labour, I’m saying let it be about someone other than you.

Because at the end of the day we all need help, and wouldn’t it be nice to have someone offer their help to you when you need it.

Exactly, so if you understand this rule, this law, then go help someone.

Let me know if you have been in a situation similar to this…have you gave your time to helping others and because you did this, you helped yourself professionally and or personally..

What one word describes what 2011 will be like for you?

14 Dec

A few days ago I asked the question

“What one word describes what 2011 will be like for you?”

I posted this question on Facebook and Twitter.

I got some great answers, before I share my answer, here are some of the answers I got.

Next Level

These words are more than just words to those who answered. Each word describes what each person wants for themselves for the coming year.

Whats My word?

As I enter the new year I plan on embracing more of myself, embracing my fears, my strengths and my weakness.

I will embrace what I love to do, and do it with more passion, embrace the great family and friends I have, embrace my creativity, embrace change and the list goes on.
But the major one for sure is looking my fears in the eye and moving forward knowing that these fears will hold me back only if I allow them to..and I’m not planning on letting them. Though we all know what fear feels like, fear has no life, unless we give it life, so I will embrace it, and let it know that I won’t let it be the driver of my life.

What’s your word for 2011?

Write your word down and put it up, get emotionally connected to it.
Every time you read it, you should feel ignited..your actions should be in line with the word you choose.

Let’s embrace the deep power we have within us to create a life that is freaking and absolutely amazing..

The best time to start is NOW enter 2011 breathing the word that sets your soul on FIYA.

Learned so much

10 Aug

I think allot of people in my network know that I’m having my first dance production coming up on August 23rd, 2009. I’m excited about it.

I’ve learned some valuable information that I will share when the show wraps up. But there’s one thing I have learned and is so important to any artists in the entertainment industry.

Here it is…You must be clear on your vision to the point that you could touch it, smell it and feel it, your senses come alive when you think about it. Reason being, of course you want a great show but you also have to put the show together and putting a show together comes with details that need your attention, the more clear you are with your vision the easier it is to make these details come alive.

So write down your vision, record yourself talking about the vision get items that bring the vision to life..Make it happen

Thank You

3 Aug

I had sent out a brief message out in my August newsletter thanking everyone for there kind and continuous support.

However I feel, that wasn’t enough, simply because I know there are people who read my blogs and who are just as supportive, who do not receive my newsletter.

So I want to take this time to thank all the readers who stop by, read what I’m writing, leave comments, and show me so much love.

I’ve learnt that you need to constantly thank those who support you, and encourage you…And I will constantly say thank you….for every second and minute of support and love I receive from others.

We are now in the early days of August, I’m feeling inspired, driven, and creativey on a great path. I know its because I’ve surrounded myself with positive people

So I want you all to know I greatly appreciate everything….

Side note: I want everyone to end the summer safe and inspired….if your within a circle or environment that’s not beneficial to your overall being, its never too late to stand up and make the necessary changes to improve your situation, some may find it easier than others to remove themselves and some will need the support of others. but it could be done one step at a time. Not only will you notice a change within your attitude, your creativity will be so thankful that it could breath. Just try it for yourself if you haven’t already done so, just step away from the environment that holds you down.

Don’t lower your expectations to meet your performance. Raise your level of performance to meet your expectations. Expect the best of yourself, and then do what is necessary to make it a reality.”

 Ralph Marston

I like this saying.

I think every time a great dancer, an actress,  an actor or athlete gets ready to perform they give it there all. They are the best at what they do, even if they are not necessarily the best at what they do, but that’s not a thought..because in there minds, in there heart that’s what who they are, they are the best.

The next time you do something be the best at it.

Step Away

29 Jun

I was trying to trying to figure something out yesterday, and I couldn’t come up with an answer, I was working my brain, trying to make a final decision about an idea  I had..

The decision wasn’t life or death, matter of fact I could have waited to make the decision.

So after getting frustrated with myself,  a close friend said to me, “You know, you don’t need to decide now, your frustrating yourself over something that is very little at this time, why don’t you step away, let your mind clear up, then start brainstorming some ideas, because its obvious that your not going to make the best decision right now.”

That lit up in my head. I laughed at myself first of all, for getting so worked up, but I was brought back to my senses.

Really sometimes, we need to let ourselves deal with situations naturally, stop forcing the mind to have an answer now. You could tell when this is not the best thing to do, because usually after you make the decision you still are not happy.

So I let it go…and I will get back to thinking about that specific idea, when I’m able to sit down and give the thought the space and time it needs to come together.

Special Thank You

One of the first books I read on self help, positive thinking and leadership was “How to win friends and influence people.”  By Dale Carnegie

My first thought before I read that book was what the hell is this…I don’t want to win friends,  I shouldn’t have to win friends and why do I need to influence people. I read this book when I was in high school.

This is one of the best books I’ve ever read…the title of the book doesn’t give it justice at all, I’m glad I didn’t stop myself from reading the book.

We are living in a world that we all need to share, we all need to learn how to live with each other regardless of our differences, we all want to do great things and have people join in on these experiences….the book talks about that,  and most of all it gives examples of tough situations that we encounter with each other on a day to day basis, and provides ways in which we could come out of the situation not stomping on the other persons ego…

I can’t sum up how good this book is…but I have to say “Thank you” I appreciate that book now…. more so than I did when I first read it in high school, I appreciate it in many ways…I still have the book, and I have to re visit it time and time again…because that’s how valuable the information is….whenever I read it, I feel like I got new information.

How does this book relate to dance……it relates to dance, to business, to life and everything in between. It relates to the relationships we form and want to form with others…knowing how to work with other dancers and choreographers is key to a dancers growth and success….this book is a good read.

If you have ever read this book, let me know your thoughts, if you plan on reading this book, read it and let me know your thoughts…..

What Do You Know For Sure

29 May

I found a few good reads from the good old Oprah website.

The question asked is “What do you know for sure?”  http://www.oprah.com/article/relationships/couples/200811_omag_for_sure_oprah

Dance Quote

25 May

“The truest expression of a people is in its dance and in its music. Bodies never lie.” De Mille

I like this saying. Your body language says allot, even when you are not dancing your energy and physical movements sends off a message.
